Education is an issue of national competence, not governed by EU law and regulated by member-states. The same goes for higher education and the rights/ obligations of EU nationals opting for a higher education courses in the UK, including the academic fees to be paid. This is an issue of particular concern to Cyprus, a member-state with an important student community in British universities.
The British government has decided that all EU students currently studying in the UK’s academic institutions and those that will enroll during the year 2019 will continue enjoying the same status as regards their fees (home fee status) as now, until the completion of their current studies. The British government with a subsequent decision extended this for the academic year 2020/21. The same arrangements will also apply for the EU loan.
